Vaccinations are offered by gentle vet Dr. Dosselman & Cactus Creek Mobile Veterinary Services and are a critical component to maintaining good pet health.  Many viruses and bacteria we vaccinate our pets against can have serious or fatal consequences if allowed to infect an unvaccinated animal.  Tucson veterinarian Dr. Dosselman’s routine vaccines include distemper, parvo, hepatitis, parainfluenza, bordetella, rhinotracheitis, calicivirus, panleukopenia, and leukemia. Rabies is probably the vaccine most familiar to dog and cat owners.  Not only is vaccinating for rabies imperative for your pet’s protection (both cat and dog), but it is also required by law for dogs in Pima county.  For those pets who will be flying on a commercial airline flight, official State of Arizona health certificates are required. Most airlines require a health certificate to be issued within 10 days of the date of departure and proof of current vaccine status must be listed on the certificate.

Bloodwork and other diagnostic tests are available with Tucson vet Dr. Dosselman’s practice to screen internally for problems, to diagnose specific causes for disease, and to direct treatment plans. Typical lab tests include: blood CBC and chemistry panels, urinalysis to check for kidney problems and urinary tract infections, bacterial cultures to determine which antibiotics are appropriate for bacterial infections, and parasite fecal checks to diagnose common GI parasites such as giardia, roundworms, and tapeworms.  Valley fever testing for dogs with common coughing and limping symptoms can confirm or rule out this fungus as a cause.  Valley fever is an airborne/soil fungus and is extremely prevalent in the Tucson region.  Tick fever is also a common disease of dogs in the Tucson region. Some, but not all, ticks in the Tucson region carry the bacteria which cause tick fever. A tick fever test is an important part of the workup with any chronically ill dog, even if no ticks have been seen by the pet owner.
